DJI, who make some of the world’s most popular drones and action cameras, seems determined to establish a meaningful presence in the 360 video world. Could their latest offering, the Osmo 360, which seems squarely targeted at Insta360’s market, be the opening salvo of a 360 video arms race?
There have been rumors floating around for a while about a potential new offering from DJI in the 360-degree video space, but up until today, these have remained just that—rumors. Now, however, it seems that we have an actual sighting of this new product, along with some data about its features and specifications.
As a fan of the small, portable, go-anywhere 360 action cameras myself, I can understand the excitement around a new line of 360 video cameras from another manufacturer. I really enjoy my little Insta360 X5, and aside from its incredible portability and go-anywhere durability, it allows me to capture shots that would just not be possible with a regular video camera. The entry of another manufacturer into the 360 video space is probably going to be a big plus for consumers, since one would hope that the competition to capture more of the 360 video market will drive innovation and improvements to the existing lines of cameras.
In this breaking news video from TechAvid, they show what purports to be some leaked footage revealing the new DJI Osmo 360 still in its packaging, the sides of which list the specifications of the new product and even offer some hints at the eventual price once the product becomes available.
As far as I can tell, this video does not constitute any kind of official announcement from DJI but is presented as an unofficial leak. For that reason, you will probably want to take some of this information with a grain of salt until we see some kind of official announcement from DJI themselves. In particular, regarding the price—how much those of us who are stateside end up actually paying for the Osmo 360 will depend upon whatever the tariff situation happens to be when the product is released. Given the incredible flux in tariff policy that we are experiencing right now, it’s really anyone’s guess how much of a tariff will end up being slapped on this camera, but it’s probably safe to assume that it won’t be zero!
