The Ricoh GR IV Arrives: New Sensor, Redesigned 28mm Lens, 5-Axis IBIS, and 53 GB Internal Storage

Ricoh has announced the GR IV, a pocketable APS-C compact that continues the fixed-lens GR line with a higher-resolution sensor, a newly designed 28mm-equivalent lens, expanded in-body stabilization, and much larger internal storage.

Compared with the GR III/GR IIIx, the GR IV adds a 25.7-megapixel back-illuminated APS-C sensor, a seven-element 18.3mm f/2.8 lens (28mm full frame equivalent), 5-axis stabilization rated to 6 stops, and 53 GB of internal memory alongside a microSD slot. It also introduces a “Snap Priority” exposure mode (“Sn”), a focus limiter, new film simulations (“Cinema Yellow,” “Cinema Green”), revised rear controls, and a larger DB-120 battery. Video remains 1080p up to 60p.

On physical changes, the GR IV trims the body slightly, reworks the grip, replaces the GR III’s rear rocker with a dial, moves exposure compensation to a dedicated button, and swaps to microSD for removable media. The hot shoe is redesigned but remains P-TTL compatible. Optional accessories include the GF-2 external flash, GA-3 lens adapter, GW-4 21mm ultra-wide angle conversion lens, and GV-2 mini optical viewfinder.

Ricoh’s new accompanying GR World app provides remote shooting, playback, transfers, and social sharing; it supports recent GR bodies and uses upgraded Wi-Fi 6 connectivity on the GR IV.

What’s New vs. GR III/GR IIIx (Quick Summary)

  • Higher-resolution 25.7 MP sensor and new GR Engine 7 processor

  • Redesigned 28mm-equivalent lens with seven-element optical formula and improved dust mitigation

  • 5-axis IBIS with a claimed 6-stop benefit

  • “Snap Priority” mode, focus limiter, and additional film simulations

  • Larger DB-120 battery and automatic LCD brightness adjustment

  • 53 GB internal storage and switch to microSD media

  • Updated controls and slightly smaller/lighter body footprint (minor changes)
